Grounds

The Eco Club are responsible for the development and upkeep of the wildlife area. The old Eco Area in the old school had just reached maturity at the time of demolition. While we wait for the new area to be planted out this team will be planning the next project to attract wildlife into our school grounds. Below is the new wetland area under construction.

From September 2007 we will start planning how we can make our school grounds a better place for wildlife and we start work on this project in the spring.

We have now planted out 6 trees and lots of shrubs. The trees are Silver Birch and Rowan trees and have been planted on the southern and eastern side of the pond. This has been followed by 6 more Oaks at the back of the school and a bird feeder in the year 6 and 7 playgrounds.

The pond has now been planted out with a wide range of native pond plants. Eco Club went out and helped Greg (a countryside management expert) put the plants in and establish a wildflower meadow area at the side. We look forward to seeing all these plants grow over the next few months.

In the next few weeks we will be establishing a much larger area of meadowland in one corner of the grounds to attract insects and create a contrasting habitat. We are also awaiting the delivery of a number of bird and bat boxes as well as undertaking a bird box design and build courtesy of Mr. Carr and his year 9 personalised learning class. We will then position all the boxes around the grounds.
